Hello friends, today I am going to make a puli inji curry, which is an essential part of Kerala sadya
Ingredients: 300g tamarind soaked in 2 cups water. Squeeze the juice out of the tamarind, and then filter it
Ginger, Mustard, Fenugreek seeds, Green chilies, Curry leaves, Red chilies, Jaggery, Salt, Hing (asfoetida), Red chili powder, Turmeric powder
Now let's start preparing the dish… Boil the tamarind juice until it becomes thick
Add 1 tsp red chili powder, half tsp turmeric powder, a pinch of asfoetida, 1 tsp jaggery powder, half tsp salt. Mix well.
Now let's transfer this to a serving dish
In a pan, add one tbsp of virgin coconut oil, one tsp of mustard
Once the mustard splutters, add 2 red chilies, a pinch of fenugreek seeds, few curry leaves. Fry this well.
Now add two green chilies (finely chopped), and two tbsp of chopped ginger (peeled, washed)
Mix well until ginger pieces become light brown
Now add this to the cooked tamarind paste and mix well.
Puli inji curry is ready.
Tamarind is said to be good for liver detoxification. So try this often at home. We usually make this as part of sadya (feast) for festivals in Kerala
