In this video, we are going to understand
about the Bio Molecules.
Before going to our chapter first lets see
what is Atom?
Atom is a fundamental Piece of Matter, it
cannot be further subdivided.
It is made up of three tiny subatomic Particles
they are proton, neutron and electron.
The proton and neutron are in the centre of
atom called NUCLEUS and the electrons are
surrounding around them .This is called as
an atom.
And now lets see what is Molecules?
Two or more atoms joined together to form
Example for molecule is Water molecule.
When two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom
joined together to form water molecules.
Now lets see Bio-Molecules What is Bio-Molecules?
The Molecule present in the living organism
or living cells are called Bio-Molecules.
Bio-Molecules are the complex lifeless organic
substances which build up living organisms
and are required for their further growth
and Maintenance.
These forms the basis of life.
Example for Bio-Molecules are carbohydrates,
Proteins, lipids,Enzymes.
In our food rice contain Carbohydrate, Dhal
contain Proteins and Oils contain Fats.
So Whatever we Eat the food contains Bio Molecules.
The Branch of Science which deals with Bio-Molecules
comes under BIO-CHEMISTRY
Now lets see the importance and function of
Bio Molecules are made by living organism.
They exist only in inside the living organismand
it cannot exist in outside the living organism
because they are too complex to be created.
The formation of the single cell have less
chance to produced in outside of living organism.
There are four major purposes of biomolecules.
The first one is structure, Structure gives
shape to the body example Protein and the
second one is Energy storage.
This is the building blocks of human body
Example carbohydrates, and the third one is
Protective layer, which protects the human
body example Lipids and the last one is Information
storage and Communication.
This can be take part in DNA, RNA etc structure
is also aided by Minerals.
Minerals does not take part in Bio molecules.
The communication and Information is transferred
from one cell to another by Nucleic and our
genomic code
Now lets see the Classification of Bio-Molecules.
Bio Molecules are majorly classified into
Carbohydrates, Proteins, Enzymes and Nucleic
acid etc.
Now Lets see the first classification Carbohydrate?
Carbohydrates are the most abundant Bio molecules
on the Earth.
The main source of energy for all living organism
is carbohydrates.
Carbohydrate is a Bio-Molecules compound containing
Carbon, hydrogen and oxygen it is produced
by plants and animals, general formula of
Carbohydrate is Cx(H2O)y.
Example for Carbohydrates are Corn, Apple,
Potato, Banana, Cane sugar, Rice, Wheat etc……..
Carbohydrates are a Macronutrient, Macronutrient
are the primary source which gives energy
to our body.
We need Carbohydrates, Proteins, fats, vitamins,
minerals and so on because body cannot produce
macro nutrients on its own.
There are two types of carbohydrates they
are simple and Complex carbohydrates.
Complex carbohydrates takes a lengthy duration
to Process in the body.
They helped with the prolonged release of
energy due to high amounts of nutrients and
Example for complex carbohydrates are Apple,
banana, Carrot, Cauliflower, Potato and so
Now lets see What is Simple carbohydrates?
Simple carbohydrates are similar to Proceesed
They regarded as simple sugars.
Simple carbohydrates get separated in the
body very fast and are used as an intermediate
energy source that burns out faster.
Examples for Simple carbohydrates are honey,Fresh
juices,Candy and chocolates.
Now lets see about Protein, see this picture
they have two different body structure, this
boy is very thin, Sick and less muscle.
While the other boy have more muscle and looks
healthy because he had a diet rich in proteins
such as Fish,chicken and egg.
These foods have rich in proteins which is
important to our day to day life.
Is Protein is present only in Non- vegetarian.
No protein, is also present in vegetarian
foods like pulses, beans, milk and cheese.
So proteins are present in vegetarian as well
as Non vegetarian food.
But some of the food contains less protein
for example Rice.
Rice contain more carbohydrates but less proteins.
Proteins are made up of individual units of
amino acids.
Now lets see what is an amino acid?
Amino acid contain carbon atom, Nitrogen atom,
oxygen atom, Hydrogen atom and the R group
is organic compound differ from one amino
acid to other amino acid.
So amino acid joined together to form Proteins.
So Amino acid are known as Building blocks
of Proteins
Next one is Enzyme, Now consider we are having
breakfast like idly. after three to four hours.
You feel hungry again do you know what is
happening inside the stomach.
food is getting broken down in the stomach
by the process of digestion and the food particles
leaves out from the stomach, leaves the stomach
So we feel hungry again.
This shows the process of digestion is not
taking place properly.
Secretion of juices in the stomach helps in
the Process of digestion. The digestive juices
helps in the digestion of food that is the
break down of food contains Enzymes.
Enzymes art nothing but, the catalyst.
Enzymes are used to increase the rate of reaction
and it remains same as before and after the
Now lets see the examples that we are having
biscuits and Cookies.
When we eat biscuits it breaks down into simpler
molecules with the help of Salivery enzymes
and after some hours we feel hungry.
Because Biscuits are made up of carbohydrates
. Then now take chappathi with meat here chappathi
is Carbohydrates and meat contains Proteins.
When we eat the both , Chappathi can break
down with the help of salivery enzymes and
chicken take time to break down, so we dont
feel hungry.
Because it stored for long time
This shows Enzymes plays a major role for
Thus biomolecules are the structural and functional
units of living organism
